Hello Third Grade Families,
We have been learning about cityscapes in art class. Students analyzed paintings by Richard Estes and have been practicing a mathematical way of drawing in one-point perspective to show space.
Below is a link to a video demonstration of one-point perspective. It is more advanced than what we practiced in class together. But, your children will recognize the vocabulary and technique. I have encouraged them to practice drawing with this one-point perspective method so they can improve before we create our Portland cityscapes. They may want to draw along with the video. If they do, I encourage them to pause the video and go slow. This is a very challenging method, and every single one of them has been successful!
Ask your child about the horizon line, vanishing point and converging lines.
Have fun! And, don’t give up!
