Hello Parents!  I can't believe I haven't posted since October!  Let me update you!

Tuesday, Jan 24 is our Rice Rock Museum field trip.  We will leave the school at 0930 arriving at the museum by 10 AM.  Chaperones will meet us at the museum at 10AM.  We will leave the museum at 1PM and return to school by 1:30 PM.  Please DO NOT FORGET to PACK A LUNCH for your child.  I will be taking our lunch tub on the bus.

Literacy:  We have finished up our unit on informative texts and are moving on the Unit 3, Characters.  During this unit students will be able to identify characters in their stories as well as their character traits.  Students will be able to make predictions about character reactions based on  these character traits.  Another important skill during this unit is inferencing/drawing conclusions about their characters throughout the story.

Writing:  In writing, we continue to focus on vocabulary, punctuation, and capital letters.  We will soon begin our next unit on informative writing.

Math:  In math we continue to work on geometry.  We've almost completed this unit and it will end with perimeter and area.  We continue to work on time and I will introduce fractions this month.

Social Studies:  We are discussing the importance salmon to the Northwest Native Americans who inhabited this area.  We will dive in the the Multnomah tribe next week.  We are also going to be talking about Human Rights and Civil Rights during this unit.

Science:  We have finished up our unit on Rock and Minerals.  Our next science unit will begin after this social studies unit.

Mo Phillips is our artist in residence.  He is a musician and music teacher.  Mo will be teaching the children about song writing.  Your children will be writing a song using geometry vocabulary.  Mo is very funny and easy going.  The kids love his playful and accepting personality.  They wrote the first part of their song this morning!  We will see Mo 3 times next week and end with a finished song that your children have written.  It's a really fun time.

We haven't seen our reading buddies in a while so we will be doing an activity with them to reconnect next Friday afternoon.

Thank you for your continued support and patience.  As always, if you have any questions or concerns, feel free to email me.  We can also schedule a meeting time before or after school if need be.

THANK YOU for an awesome year so far!
